My weekend loot

I'm pretty happy with how this week's trips to CVS and Target went. Besides the Sensodyne and Aquafresh Iso-active toothpaste CVS didn't have in stock yet, I was able to get everything I wanted for the week!

CVS:
transaction #1:

Gillette Fusion Razor-8.99
Gilette men's shampoo-3.99
Glade Fragrance Reed diffuser-6.99
-2.00 razor coupon
-free shampoo coupon(4.99-yes that's right, they deducted the regular price, not the sale price for the shampoo, so an extra 1.00 taken off!)
-3.00 glade coupon
Total 9.98, paid with 10 ecbs.
Got back: 3ecbs, 1 ecb, 6.99 ecbs = 10.99 in ecbs!!

transaction #2:
1 gallon milk- 1.99
1 6pack mini Almond Joys-.77
-.50 milk coupon
total = 2.26, paid w/ 2 ecbs and .26 change (needed milk and didn't want to make a separate trip to the grocery store. We ususally buy dairy-less milk, such as almond milk or rice milk, but we made an exception this week.

And, my little transaction for my Vornado loving husband:
1 Vornado air circulator fan-26.49 (regularly 52.99!!)
used my 11 ecbs from 1st transaction and paid just 13.00 oop (out of pocket) for a 53 dollar fan! We have one in the boys' room and now one in our room and it's a great sound machine to help us sleep, plus it circulates the air in the room really well.

And on to Target. . .I did my Target shopping trip after dropping my husband and oldest son off at the park to set up their kites to go kite flying :)

In my 20 minute shopping trip I rounded up:
2 boxes Special K crackers
2 boxes Special K chocolate pretzel bars
subtotal - 14.56
-(2) .75/1 box bars q
-(2) .50/1 Target Special K snack coupons
-(2) 1.00/1 Special K crackers q
-(2) .50/1 Target Special K snack coupons)

New Total- 4.06, received 5.00 gift card for promotional offer!

Transaction #2:
Huggies Jumbo pack diapers - 8.99
Boost Kid Essentials drink - 7.99
Motts Apple Juice - 1.83
Hefty 1 zip bags .97
-1.50 Target huggies q
-1.50 manuf. huggies q
-1.00 Hefty q
- 5.00 Boost manuf. q
-2.00 Target Boost q
Total w tax= 9.48- 5.00 gift card = 4.48 out of pocket!!!!

After our quick Target trip, off we went to have a fun evening of kite flying at the park. Can't get much better than that!

Emailing companies really does work!

and

I took some advice from some other coupon bloggers and emailed Johnson & Johnson (consumerproducts@scj.com) telling them I was interested in one of their new products yet my Sunday newspaper was excluded from the coupon they provided that week.
I received a reply today and this is what the nice lady at SC Johnson and Company said:
Courtney,

We appreciate your interest in our Fragrance Collection by Glade® soy candle.

I'm sorry the coupon was not found in your Sunday's newspaper. We would like you to be able to try this product so I'm mailing you a free coupon.(bolded that myself) :)

Talk about customer service!! I'm so excited to get my free soy candle now :)

On the email subject, I also received a shipment notice from the Dr. Pepper company informing me that my free bottle of Venom Bite energy drink that I signed up for last week is on it's way! Click on the link to get your free bottle, too! Free chocolate, free energy drink, free candle, almost free cereal . . .Hooray for free fridays!

CVS this week

So here's my breakdown of my CVS trip from yesterday:

Transaction #1:
2 Composition books= 1.98
get 1.98 ecbs
final price = free

Blink tears (like Visine) 7.99
- (3.00 q)
get 7.99 ecbs
final price= $3 money maker

2 pencil boxes 3.98 (as advertised in ad)
get 3.98 ecbs
final price=free

1 Johnson & Johnson 1st aid kit .99 - (1.00 q)
1 Johnson & Johnson 1st aid kit .99 -(1.00 q)
get 2.00 ecbs
final price - $2 money maker

2 paper refill 1.98
get 1.98 ecbs
final price = free

Emeral nuts trail mix pack 1.00

I also used a $4 off $20 purchase coupon, and
I used 13.99 in ECBs I already had. So after all my coupons
my subtotal was -.04. I had to pay tax. That's it. And I got back 18.00
in ECBs.

Transaction #2 (the one I was really excited about)

1 Loreal advanced revitalizer wrinkle repair 14.99
1 Loreal revitalizer facial cleanser 5.99
- 5.00 printable coupon available here
-4/20 coupon available in CVS's coupon booklet from the pharmacy in back
-1.00 printable coupon available from their website as well. (link is posted above). When you click on the link above, just go to the lower left corner where it says "special offers and savings" and print out the 5.00 and 1.00 coupons.
Subtotal after coupons= 10.98. I paid with the ecbs I made in the previous transaction :).
SO, got it all FREE!!
(Well, again I paid tax (1.40) out of pocket because I didn't want to waste a 2.00 ecb that I have for 1.40 of tax.)

For those of you who don't collect the weekly coupon inserts from newspapers ,this is still a good deal for you to get in on because the coupons are printables from Loreal's website. Then, you get some good skincare stuff and you get in on the ecb action. A great place to start.

AND, I still have 20.00 in ecbs for my next purchases.

And c'mon, WHO doesn't want FREE skincare products? Who doesn't want to prevent wrinkles? Maybe I'm slightly obsessed with taking good care of my skin, but so be it. I will do everything I can (within frugal limits!) to take good care of my skin and what better way to do it than free? :)

Also, you might be asking "What does she need all those school supplies for?" I don't need them. Well, some of them I keep for my son's craft projects but most of them I donate to local schools and have them give them to whatever kids are in need at their school. It's my way of being able to donate to the community but do it within my family's budget.

So there you have it. My CVS trip for the week.

Stay tuned for my Kmart deal I did today!

Can-O-Rama

Today my savings adventure comes in the form of canning my own peaches. Some friends and I took our kids to Chico State's peach orchard yesterday and I picked a daintly load of 11 lbs of peaches. Today I went to Winco and picked up my mason jars for 6.02. After I make the peaches I'll figure out how much per jar they ended up costing. Stay tuned for pictures and results!

Special Savemart trip

I think I may scratch a few items off my Safeway list and head over to Savemart for some extra savings on the way home from Safeway. My list will look like this:

EarthGrains Bread 2.49
use .55/1 coupon
final price 1.94

Might buy my ground turkey and/or ground chuck from here, depending on Safeway's prices.

My total should be about 8.00, I'll be getting free lettuce, and I'll shave off almost 11.00 at Safeway (6.99 shrimp, 2.49ish bread, 1.44 bananas)

Grocery Day

I try and do my grocery shopping on Wednesdays, because that's when all the grocery store sale ads come out each week. If you don't get the paper, you can look at them online, just go to Safeway.com, or Savemart.com, Raleys.com, you get the idea. I don't usually shop at Savemart, but they have some good deals this week which I'll post about a little later.

Here's what my Safeway list is looking like right now. Oh, and I should just put it out there that while many blogs will post about fabulous deals on fruit snacks and packaged or processed foods, I try and limit my house's intake of that stuff, so while I may post about a few deals of that nature, most of the time I will bypass them and save my money by making healthful snacks myself or sticking with the good 'ol fashioned snack of fruits or veggies (carrots with peanut butter, anyone? ;) I will also spend more money on fish and fresh meats because I think it's important to eat nutritiously, not just cheap.

use .55 coupon from buy fresh beef, get .55 off real CA cheese

price check :
laughing cow cheese (use 1.00/produce q if I buy that)
Buitoni ready pasta (use 1.00/q)
Kellogg's cereals
If Kellogg's cereals are on sale, I can pair the sale price with (2) .75/1 box of mini wheats cereals, 1.00/2 Kellog's Special K cereals, and the Kellogg's Fuel for school 10.00 rebate you get when you buy 10 kellog's products in 1 transaction. I could score some free juice that way with my 2.00 off Ocean Spray juice when you buy 2 Kellog's mini wheats cereal coupon I have.

OK, that's my main list. I may supplement with more items if I spot some great deals. I think I should spend about 35.00 for this week's groceries. Not too bad.

Please feel free to post comments, recipes, suggestions, etc. anytime you like!!

Oh, and while you're on coupons.com, don't forget to print your Kashi coupons out to use them at Target and stock up on some healthy and tasty Kashi cereals! There is a 1.50/2 boxes and a 1.00/1 box of granola bars. (And take that Vocalpoint.com Kashi coupon, too!) I will shamelessly plug Kashi because they don't use artificial ingredients in their products. They actually use healthy ingredients!

New York and Company promotion

I love New York and Company. I love their clothes and I love that they almost always have coupons out which means great deals on fashionable clothes. Shopping is a little trickier these days (little boys aren't huge fans of shopping I have discovered, until they discover the joy of pulling clothes off the rack!) so I don't get there as often as I like. For those of you who are thinking you may need a new pair or two of pants for the coming fall season, New York and Company is having a Buy One Get One Free promotion for all of their pants and jeans!

Vocalpoint.com

For any beginners, Vocalpoint.com is great site to get some neat free samples and coupons from. They do a lot of product testing and use normal people like us to give feedback! Check it out here. You can print a Kashi coupon for 1.50 off a box of Kashi Honey Sunshine and Target has Kashi cereal on sale for 2.74 right now. With your coupon, that's just 1.24 for a box of cereal. If you have any non-expired Target printable coupons for Kashi cereal, your deal could get even sweeter.

Burt's Bee's Free Sample

My Frugal Adventures and Saving Cents with Sense both posted about Burt's Bee's Free Acne Solution Sample that's available right now by clicking here. Don't miss out on a great free sample!

Getting started with saving

One of the main ways to save is to check out blogs like mine, or others listed in my favorite blogs section below. There are always posts about how to get great deals. They often involve stacking coupons, which is when you use both a store coupon AND a manufacturer's coupon on 1 item. For example, Target has it's own printable coupons they post online. Check them out here. If you match up a Target coupon with a manufacturer's coupon you can often double your savings. A couple of weeks ago I got a great deal on Kashi cereal bars (.50 or less per box!) and cereal by using both kinds of coupons.

Welcome to my new blog!

Hey everyone! I have finally started a blog to help log my weekly savings and to post on all the great deals to be had out there each day. Now, with 2 little ones running around and working part-time, and running a house, and yada, yada, yada, I will try my bestest to keep up on all the deals. Come join me in learning how to stretch a buck!

Today I visited CVS and did the following transaction:
4 jars Skippy p.b. (16.3 oz)
2 jars Ragu (26 oz)
1 Bayer Contour glucose meter (14.99)
1 Revlon Colorstay Mineral Foundation
1 Glaceau Vitamin Water
1 Trident Bubblegum (good behavior treat for my almost 3 year old)

I had a $5 off $25 dollar purchase coupon for taking a survey on their website (click here)
(2) 1.00 coupons for $1.00/2 Skippys
(1) 1.00 coupon for $1.00/2 Ragus
and a 14.99 coupon for the Bayer Meter
I used 17.00 in CVS' Extra Care Bucks
I paid 1.41 out of pocket (.47 subtotal and .94 tax) AND I got 18.00 in ECBs (remember, Extra Care Bucks, which is like CVS cash).
So really, I paid .41 for all that!
